Mario Trutanic

The newest member of the 49er coaching staff, Mario Trutanic joins the program this year for his first season. His primary duties include the organization of camps and clinics, film exchange, and marketing assistance.
Trutanic comes to the program after spending the past three years as the head girl’s varsity head coach at South Torrance High School, where he accumulated a 69-25 overall record and led the team to three trips to the CIF playoffs. In 2006-07, South Torrance posted a 25-6 record, won the Pioneer League title with a perfect 10-0 mark and advanced to the CIF Division IIA quarterfinals. He was named the Pioneer League Coach of the Year for his efforts. In 2005-06, South Torrance was 26-8, advanced to the CIF Division IIA championship and earned an appearance in the state tournament.
Trutanic began his coaching career as an assistant coach for two years (1999-2001) at Marymount High School in Los Angeles. Marymount went 29-17 in those two years, including a 17-5 mark in 2000-01, a league championship and an appearance in the CIF playoffs.
From there he spent two years (2001-03) as the head girls coach at Crossroads High School. He led Crossroads to a 34-20 mark in two seasons and two appearances in the CIF Division IIIIAA quarterfinals. In 2002-03, Marymount was 18-9, won the Alpha League championship and Trutanic was selected as the league's Coach of the Year. In 2003-04 he was an assistant girls coach at Saint Bernard's High School. In his five years as a high school coach, Trutanic has a 103-45 (.696) overall record.
Additionally, Trutanic has been involved in Southern California basketball for several years. He is currently the head coach for the Girls 17 & Under Southern California Swoosh team. That team has traveled to numerous tournaments over the past year providing players with the opportunity of getting maximum exposure to college coaches and recruiters. Southern California Swoosh has competed in tournaments in Oregon, Arizona, Las Vegas, Memphis, Chicago and numerous tournaments in California.
A graduate of Antioch University with a degree in Liberal Studies, Trutanic recently earned his masters degree in Sports Management from the University of San Francisco, Orange campus.
