Bobby Braswell

Bobby Braswell is in his third year as an assistant coach for Dan Monson after returning in 2018 for his season stint as an assistant coach at Long Beach State. He came back to the Beach after two seasons at the University of Texas-El Paso, where he served as an assistant coach for the Miners.
 
Prior to his stint with UTEP, Braswell was the head coach at Big West rival CSUN for 17 seasons. He posted a 251-258 record with the Matadors, making a pair of trips to the NCAA Tournament (2001, 2009.) He won three regular-season conference titles at CSUN, winning one in the Big Sky Conference and back-to-back in the Big West Conference in 2008-09. He was the Big Sky Coach of the Year in 2001 and the Big West Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2009.
 
Braswell made history at CSUN, guiding the school to three 20-win seasons and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2001. During that season, he led the Matadors to a 78-74 win over No. 15 UCLA at Pauley Pavilion, picking up CSUN’s first win over a ranked opponent in program history.
 
Braswell began his coaching career at Cleveland High School in Los Angeles, where he was head coach from 1985-89. During his tenure, he coached Division I talents like Lucious Harris (Long Beach State), Eddie Hill (Washington State), Adonis Jordan (Kansas), and Trevor Wilson (UCLA). He began his collegiate coaching career at Long Beach State in 1989, spending three seasons at the Beach under coaches Joe Harrington and Seth Greenberg.
 
After leaving LBSU, Braswell was an assistant coach at Oregon for four seasons, where he also served as the recruiting coordinator. He returned to Northridge to take over as the head coach of his alma mater in 1996.
 
Braswell received a degree in English with a minor in African-American Studies from CSUN in 1985. He and his wife, Penny, have three children: sons Jeffrey and Christopher and daughter Kyndal.
