Beach Multis Open Strong At Bryan Clay Multis

Long Beach State opened the two-day multis competition with strong performances in Group A at Cougar Stadium.
AZUSA, Calif. — Long Beach State opened competition Thursday at the Bryan Clay Multis, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, with two athletes competing in Group A of the men's decathlon.
Senior Ryan Gregory led the Beach through four events, beginning with a third-place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 10.74 to earn 919 points. He followed with a mark of 7.18 meters (23 feet, 6 ¾ inches) in the long jump to place sixth and add 857 points. Gregory recorded 12.35 meters (40 feet, 6 ¼ inches) in the shot put and cleared 1.98 meters (6 feet, 6 inches) in the high jump, finishing sixth in that event to close the day with 4,092 points and sit sixth overall in Group A.
Milo Orona also competed in Group A, opening with a time of 11.19 in the 100 meters before recording a mark of 6.66 meters (21 feet, 10 ¾ inches) in the long jump. He added 12.70 meters (41 feet, 8 inches) in the shot put and cleared 1.89 meters (6 feet, 2 ¼ inches) in the high jump, totaling 3,706 points to remain in contention after day one.
The two-day meet will conclude Friday with the remaining decathlon events, including the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault and javelin, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
