Long Beach State begins the 2026 outdoor track and field season this weekend as the Beach hosts the Beach Opener at Jack Rose Track on Friday and Saturday.

Long Beach State opens the 2026 outdoor season by hosting the Beach Opener this weekend at Jack Rose Track in Long Beach, Calif. The two-day meet begins Friday with field events starting at 11 a.m. Competition continues Saturday with field events and track events both beginning at 10 a.m.

THE FIELD
The Beach Opener will feature teams from across the region and nation including Azusa Pacific, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Northridge (CSUN), Cerritos College, Colorado Mesa, El Camino College, Long Beach City College, Maryland, Minnesota, Moorpark College, Navy, Orange Coast College, Point Loma, San Diego State, UC Irvine, UCLA and UNLV.
LOOKING BACK
Long Beach State enters the outdoor season following a successful indoor campaign at the MPSF Championships. The men's team finished second overall, while the women's team placed sixth.
Ryan Gregory highlighted the meet for the Beach, breaking the program record in the men's heptathlon with a score of 5,827 points. His performance earned him a berth at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, making him the 25th Long Beach State athlete to qualify for the national meet and the first since 2022. Gregory will represent the Beach in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships March 13–14.
