Denness-Lamont Breaks School Record as Beach Opens 2026 Season at Beach Opener

Long Beach State opened the 2026 outdoor track and field season Friday at the Beach Opener, highlighted by a program-record performance from junior Rori Denness-Lamont at Jack Rose Track in Long Beach, Calif.
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Field events began the two-day meet at 11 a.m. as the Beach opened the 2026 outdoor campaign hosting the Beach Opner with several strong performances in the throwing events.
Highlighting the day was Graduate Rori Denness-Lamont in the women's javelin. Denness-Lamont won the event with a throw of 53.89 meters (176'Â 9"), breaking the Long Beach State program record of 52.63 meters (174'Â 8") that she previously set.
Also competing in the women's javelin, junior Kyra Miedecke finished fourth with a mark of 42.35 meters (138'Â 11"), while sophomore Mai Ricks placed eighth at 38.36 meters (125'Â 10").
In the women's hammer throw, Giszelle Hrehor led the Beach with a sixth-place finish after recording a mark of 54.76 meters (179'Â 8"). Amanda Javellana followed closely in seventh at 54.74 meters (179'Â 7"), and Abigail Gavrilovic placed eighth with a throw of 54.69 meters (179'Â 5").
On the men's side, Matthew Bender turned in a strong performance in the javelin with a second-place finish, posting a throw of 64.57 meters (211'Â 10"). Cytres Vives added a seventh-place finish with a mark of 54.37 meters (178'Â 4").
In the men's hammer throw, junior Tyler Knowles placed 11th with a throw of 59.03 meters (193', 8").
The Beach Opener will conclude Saturday at Jack Rose Track with track events scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
