Alejandro de Castro Piera Claims Wildcat Invitational Championship

The senior had two straight rounds of 65 to start the tournament and closed out the win on Tuesday.
TUCSON, Ariz. – After three career runner-up finishes, senior Alejandro de Castro Piera took over the top spot on Tuesday, winning the Wildcat Invitational by three strokes for his first career individual championship.
Final Results
The senior was in the lead on Monday as play was halted in the second round, but Alejandro de Castro Piera finished off a second consecutive seven-under 65 to move to a big lead, and then closed the tournament with a 73 in the final round from Tucson Country Club.
It was the first collegiate win for de Castro, but his seventh career Top 5 finish and 11th in the Top 10. de Castro held off a trio of players from the hosts Arizona, who had three finish in the top five to just edge the Beach in the team competition by one stroke.
Long Beach State finished with a score of -24, placing in front of three Top 25 teams in Arizona State, Oklahoma and New Mexico as well as Colorado in the Top 3 as the team's depth shone on Tuesday.
Jack Cantlay closed the tournament in a tie for 59th overall, but had the team's low score of 69 in the final round, while Steen Zeman tied for 15th, finishing the tournament -4 after a two-under par 70. Jaden Huggins used a birdie on 18 to close the tournament with a 72, one stroke behind Zeman on the final leaderboard, while Krishnav Chopraa matched de Castro's final day 73.
No. 32 Long Beach State will return to The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford, for their next competition, held over three days on March 26-28.
