No. 31 Men’s Golf Off To Strong Start At The Goodwin

Long Beach State in second place among the 30-team field at the historic tournament.
STANFORD, Calif. – Led by three rounds under par, Long Beach State Men's Golf trailed only the hosts Stanford after the first day of The Goodwin, just one stroke behind the Cardinal.
Day One Results
Hosted by Stanford at the par 70 Stanford Golf Course, The Goodwin features a stacked, 30-team field with 160 golfers competing over three days, with 14 teams ranked in the Top 50, including Long Beach State.
In the first round, Long Beach State didn't have a round over par, finishing -10 after the opening day, one stroke behind the hosts, Stanford at -11. New Mexico was one stroke behind the Beach in a tight battle on top of the team leaderboard.
Graduate Steen Zeman was right at the top of the individual leaderboard with a five-under par 65 on Thursday. Zeman rode a streak of three straight birdies on holes 14, 15, and 16 to end the day locked in a four-way tie for second place in the tournament, one stroke behind the lead.
Alejandro de Castro used an eagle on hole seven and birdies in two of his last three holes to also finish in the Top 10, tied for ninth at -3 with a 67. One stroke back was Krishnav Chopraa, who shot a 68.
Jack Cantlay and Jaden Huggins rounded out an outstanding opening day for the Beach, both finishing with even-par cards of 70.
