Long Beach State has committed to its highly successful Men’s Golf coach through 2031.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State and Men's Golf Head Coach Rob Murray have agreed to a contract extension for the four-time Big West Coach of the Year.
"Rob Murray continues to elevate the men's golf program with this year's historic Big West Conference championship, the fourth in a row, and sending the first men's golf student-athlete in 14 years in Steen Zeman to compete at the NCAA National Championship," said Executive Director of Athletics Bobby Smitheran. "This extension demonstrates our long-term commitment to Rob and the men's golf program to compete at a high level, and I am thrilled that under Rob's guidance, he will continue to lead the program.
"National rankings, conference championships, and national championship aspirations have become synonymous with teams led by Rob Murray and I'm excited for the student-athletes in our program, as well as our loyal alumni, fans, and donors to have him at the helm of the men's golf program for years to come."
In his four seasons at Long Beach State, Murray has helped continue to build the program, reaching heights not seen since the glory days of the program over 40 years ago. Long Beach State is just the second program in league history to win four straight Big West Championships, winning all four in four seasons under the leadership of Murray, who has been selected as the Big West Coach of the Year in each of those four seasons.
Long Beach State finished the 2025-26 season ranked in the Top 25 in the nation and reached the NCAA Postseason for the fourth consecutive season under Murray's leadership. The program has had its first three All-Americans since 1983 in the last four seasons, and the national profile of the program continues to rise.
"I'm grateful to President Loren J. Blanchard, Bobby Smitheran, and the entire Long Beach State community for their continued trust and support," said Murray. "It's an honor to lead this program, and I'm excited to continue building on the success of our student-athletes while competing for championships and representing the Beach with pride."
