Women’s Water Polo Hosts No. 3 USC In Home Opener

The Beach will play for the first time this season at the renovated Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 7 Long Beach State starts its home slate after three weekends on the road, hosting No. 3 USC on February 7 for the first game in the renovated Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center.
Home of many important games and titles, the pool went through seven months of construction and on February 6 will be officially reopened and ready to host the 2026 season and the Big West Championships in April.
Long Beach State (7-4) placed fourth at the Triton Invitational the past weekend with a 2-2 record. Senior Elisa Portillo scored 11 goals to pace the team's offense and break a 20-year school record set by Cassie Azevedo (2003-06) of 209 goals. Portillo broke the record on a penalty shot against No. 5 Hawai'i and became the all-time scoring leader for the Beach with 210 goals. The Madrid native has 33 goals this season to go along with 21 assists. Lucy Miszweskiand Rita Gurri both have 25 goals while Miszweski has a team-high 24 assists. On defense, freshman Polina Synytsia has been a force for LBSU recording 65 saves in her first games for the Beach.
USC (8-1) also competed at the Triton Invitational and placed second after losing to crosstown rivals UCLA, 12-9, in the final game in La Jolla. The Trojans faced the Beach in the semifinals and took a 15-11 win. Meghan McAninch leads the team with 22 goals and 15 assists while Olympian Emily Ausmus has 19 goals. Anna Reed has been the starting goalie for SC recording 68 saves to go along with six steals and four assists.
