Lucy Miszewski led the Beach on the day with a hat trick.
LA JOLLA, Calif. – Senior Elisa Portillo broke a 20-year old school record set by Cassie Azevedo in 2006 to become the program leader in goals scored with 210 goals, with most of her senior season still to play.
No. 7 Long Beach State fell in the final game of the Triton Invitational to No. 5 Hawai'i, 10-8, closing the tournament in fourth place.
Hawai'i (5-2) started the game strong, opening a 6-1 lead in the first ten minutes of the game. Portillo's record-breaking goal and Gaby Patenaude's first of the day shortened the lead as Long Beach State (7-4) headed into halftime trailing the Rainbow Wahine, 6-3.
Another 3-0 run for UH extended its lead to 9-3 with 4:46 remaining in the third. The Beach answered back with their own 3-0 run behind two goals from senior Lucy Miszweski to close the quarter at 9-6.
Patenaude scored her second of the day, giving Long Beach State energy early in the fourth quarter, but the Bows were able to control the contest, scoring one more with 2:40 left. Rita Gurri added one late to close the gap to 10-8, but ultimately the Big West rivals were able to secure the win and third place in the tournament.
The Beach will have their first home game of the season at the renovated Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center against No. 2 USC on February 7 at Noon.
