Beach Tennis Closes Road Trip With Big West Win At UC Davis

Long Beach State finishes their home schedule on Wednesday against UC Riverside.
DAVIS, Calif. – Long Beach State rode a strong doubles performance to a 4-3 road conference win at UC Davis to finish their Northern California road trip.
Long Beach State (12-5, 4-3 Big West) kicked off the day by taking the doubles point with a strong performance. Cecilia Costa and Paulina Franco Martinessi grabbed a 6-4 win in the top flight, and Diana De Simone and Daria Malaescu were 6-2 winners over Claire Galerkin and Kaia Wolfe, finishing just in front of Thea Jagare and Johanna Hiesmair who were one point away from their doubles win over UC Davis (8-12, 2-6 Big West) as the doubles point was halted.
Costa, after a quick win in doubles, put the Beach in front 2-0 with a singles win in the second flight, rolling 6-4, 6-0 over Solia Valentine, and Daria Malaescu put the Beach in front 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Polina Marakhtanova.
Thea Jagare would ultimately seal the win with a three set win in the third flight, dropping a second-set tiebreaker but winning 6-1, 6-7, 6-4. The score was nearly more convincing, as both Pamela Badillo and Daisy Carpenter only fell in third set tiebreakers, while De Simone lost in the first flight to lead to the 4-3 final score.
Long Beach State will return home for their last home match of the season, hosting UC Riverside in a Big West conference dual on Wednesday, April 9 at 2 p.m. from the Rhodes Tennis Center.
