Lina Apodaca went 4-for-4 as the leadoff hitter while Kate Barnett recorded a second consecutive complete game.
DAVIS, Calif. – For the second game in a row, sophomore Kate Barnett went the distance in the circle while getting plenty of support from the offense as Long Beach State finished off a three-game sweep of UC Davis on the road with a 6-1 win.
Long Beach State (18-12, 8-4 Big West) didn't waste any time getting going on Sunday. Freshman Lina Apodaca had the first of her four hits to set the table in the first, and after a sacrifice, a single from Makayla Medellin put runners on the corners and a wild pitch let Apodaca come home to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Beach continued to establish control in the second inning. An error and two walks loaded the bases for Long Beach State while turning the lineup over, and the top of the order delivered again with RBI hits from Apodaca and Jacquelyn Bickar to take a 4-0 lead.
Alyssa Dethlefson tripled in the bottom of the second, scoring on an RBI groundout to give UC Davis (11-23, 5-7 Big West) their first run on one of just three hits allowed by Kate Barnett on the day.
With the bases loaded in the third, Apodaca came through again with an RBI single, and the Beach made it 6-1 on a double to right field from Brooklyn Lee to score Bickar.
Barnett set down the final eight batters she faced in order to improve to 5-2 on the season, lowering her ERA to 1.51 on the year.
After two weekends on the road, Long Beach State returns to the LBSU Softball Complex for four big games next week. The Beach will host Ohio State on Wednesday in a non-conference matchup before bringing Cal State Fullerton to the Beach for a key rivalry series in Big West play.
