Wells Wins Shot Put At Texas Relays

LBSU turns in several top 10 school performances

AUSTIN, Texas—Jaylon Wells' victory in the shot put highlighted day three for the Long Beach State track and field teams at the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist. 

MEN
Wells' two best throws were on his final two attempts, culminating in a toss of 59-3 on his sixth attempt of the "B" shot put to secure the victory. 

Tristyn Flores' 10.36 in the men's 100m nearly sent him to the finals. He finished 10th in the 34-man field as two runners ran 10.35 to take the final two final finals slots.

TJ Funches tied for ninth with Houston's Turey Stoudemire in the high jump B as the duo cleared 6-7 1/2.

In the timed 100m final, Moray Steward placed 10th after going 10.51. Malik Harness posted a 10.94 time in his heat (52nd overall).

The 4x400m relay of Flores, Patrick Henderson, Omri Shiff, and Vincent Jones finished 20th at 3:11.54.

WOMEN
The 4x100m team of Daryana Hall, Trinity Barnett, Rahni Turner, and Sofia Lavreshina ran the seventh-fastest time in school history, 45.30, during the preliminaries. Despite finishing 15th out of 44 teams, LBSU did not advance to the finals.

Turner, Barnett, Daryana Hall, and Lavreshina recorded the seventh-fastest time in school history, 3:43.62, to come in second in their heat. The time was the 12th quickest in the 38-team field.

Turner went 13.65 in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles. She finished 16th among the 45 entries but did not qualify for the finals

Barnett recorded the seventh-quickest 100m time in school history, placing 16th in the preliminary field of 45. Unfortunately, her time did not advance her to the finals.

Lavreshina finished ninth in the 400m hurdles after going 1:00.08.

The final day of the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, presented by Truist, begins at 8 a.m. PDT with the women's discus for the Beach.

SAN MARCOS, Texas—Maren Butler finished second in the shot put at Texas State's Bobcat Invitational Friday afternoon.

Butler earned second by registering a toss of 47-0 1/4. Western Washington's Jessica Polkinghorn won the event (47-3 1/2).

The action resumes in San Marcos at 8 a.m. PDT for Long Beach State with the men's hammer throw.

IRVINE, Calif.—Long Beach State sent two entries to UC Irvine's Vince O'Boyle Classic Friday.

Faitalia Ah-Fook finished fourth in the women's hammer throw (157-10).

Eman Goodloe placed third in the men's hammer throw. He tallied a throw of 163-7.

Long Beach State will compete in two events on Saturday in Irvine. Sammy Chang enters the women's discus that begins at 12:30 p.m. Tayah DeSousa runs the 100m hurdles at 12:50 p.m.
