
Men’s Golf Runners Up At Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate

Long Beach State had the best final round of the field and finished one stroke behind the hosts, Arizona.
TUCSON, Ariz. – Long Beach State climbed up the leaderboard in the final round and finished one stroke behind the hosts, No. 25 Arizona, to take second place overall at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate. Clay Seeber finished in the Top 5 and Alejandro de Castro Piera in the Top 10 to lead the way for the Beach.
"I'm incredibly proud of the fight and heart the team showed this week," said head coach Rob Murray. "The last 36 holes were in incredibly tough conditions with gusty winds and firm greens. We came up one short today but the team competed with a Top 25 team on their home course."
Final Results
With second round scores coming into play Tuesday, senior Clay Seeber had a one-under par 71 and finished with an even par 72, closing the tournament two-under par to tie for fourth place overall from Tucson Country Club. The finish was the best of the year for Seeber, and his seventh career Top 5 finish.
Junior Alejandro de Castro Piera had the best final round for the Beach, a one-under par 71 to close out the tournament Even and tie for 8th place overall, his fourth Top 10 finish of the season. Charlie Forster shot 74 in the final round to also finish in the Top 20, while Jack Cantlay rounded out the final day scoring with a 75 to tie for 28th place.
As a team, No. 29 Long Beach State was four-over in round three, passing No. 10 Utah and remaining in front of their closest competition on the leaderboard Tuesday in Cal, New Mexico State and Mississippi State.
Sophomore Krishnav Chopraa's second round 73 was a counting score as he finished in the top half of the field as well, tied for 36th overall. Sophomore Tiger Tahvildari, playing as an individual, finished in 67th.
Long Beach State Men's Golf continues a busy stretch, and will be back in action next week at The Goodwin hosted by Stanford over three days starting on Thursday, March 27.
