Krishnav Chopraa and Charlie Forster led the Beach in the first day as Long Beach State closed the first day in the 30-team tournament.
STANFORD, Calif. – Long Beach State closed the first day of competition at The Goodwin well within striking distance of the leaders, tied for eighth place among the 30-team field being hosted by Stanford.
"The team fought hard today. The course is playing hard and you really have to drive it well and make sure you're in the fairway," said head coach Rob Murray. "With such a big field the weather can change quite a bit throughout the day and this afternoon proved tricky with on and off rain. We will rest up and go again bright and early tomorrow."
Day One Results
Sophomore Krishnav Chopraa had the top day for the Beach on Thursday, recording four birdies and finishing with a 2-under 68 in the first day to tie for ninth place in the 164-golfer field. Charlie Forster was one stroke back with a 1-under 69 as the other round under par for the Beach in the first round. Steen Zeman shot a 71, while Alejandro de Castro Piera had the other counting score with a two-over 72. Jack Cantlay was the drop score, but only two strokes back with a 74 on the opening day.
BYU and Colorado finished the first round as co-leaders at 5-under par, but seven other teams including Long Beach State shot an even par or better in a highly competitive competition at the top of the leaderboard among the 30 participating teams.
