
Ashworth's 7 RBI Leads The Dirtbags Past Seattle U 15-7

LBSU battles back from 6-1 down to defeat the Redhawks
A Dirtbags' error kept Seattle U's inning alive and resulted in three runs coming across the plate.
Ashworth led off the bottom of the first by reaching on an error. A second error on the play allowed the LBSU right fielder to reach third. An Isaac Hallam pitch hit Alex Champagne. Connor Charpiot's sac fly to left scored Ashworth. Hallam hit cleanup hitter Luke Taylor. Armando Briseno flew out deep enough to left to allow Champagne to move to third. Nathan Cadena fouled out to right to end the inning.
Vicente Feliciano's two-out, three-run home run in the top of the second increased the Redhawks' lead over the Dirtbags to 6-1. Trotter Enright began the Long Beach State second with a walk. Justin Roulston reached on an error before Connor Stewart's successful sac bunt advanced the runners. Ashworth's three-run home run cut the SU's advantage to 6-4.
The Dirtbags loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the third as Brisenio and Enright posted singles to go along with Cadena being hit by a pitch. Roulston tied the game with a single that drove in two runs. A pitch hit Stewart to load the bases. With the count 1-0, Ashworth hit a grand slam home run to give the Dirtbags the lead for the first time. Champagned tripled off the new pitcher, Ryan Morrison, and came around to score on a Charpiot grounder to third.
Ashworth recorded his third hit, a single, with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Champagne walked. Charpiot doubled to center to drive in both runners, increasing the lead to 13-6. Taylor's infield single resulted in runners on the corners.
The third Long Beach State pitcher of the game, Albert Roblez, retired nine in a row before Kenny Ishikawa hit a solo home run with one out in the top of the seventh.
The Dirtbags loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. A pitch hit Roulston score pinch-runner Reid Montgomery. Stewart wit by a pitch, earning an RBI and the 15th LBSU run.
Ashworth went 3-for-6 with four runs scored. He was one RBI off the school record for most runs batted in a game by a Long Beach State player (8, three times). Charpiot drove in four runs, while Roulston had three RBI. Enright had two hits. Four Long Beach State pitchers combined on a six-hitter. Roblez was awarded the win with 3.1 innings of relief. Tyler Peterson went 2-for-3 for the Redhawks (0-7).
Long Beach State (4-3) wraps up the Tony Gwynn Legacy on Monday when the Dirtbags face Utah (6-0) at San Diego State. The first pitch is at noon.
