Long Beach State battled through a challenging matchup against #4 UCLA on Saturday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion, falling 106–44 to the Bruins.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Basketball traveled north to Westwood on Saturday afternoon to face No. 4 UCLA at Pauley Pavilion, ultimately falling 106–44 to the Bruins in a challenging road matchup.
The Beach showed early fight behind JaQuoia Jones-Brown, who scored 10 of Long Beach State's 23 first-half points while attacking the rim and providing a steady offensive presence in the opening quarter. UCLA's steady shooting enabled them to pull away, building a 57–23 lead at the break.
Coming out of halftime, Long Beach State continued to play with pace and looked to push the ball in transition. The Beach bench provided a spark in the third quarter, as Christy Reynoso knocked down a three-pointer and helped facilitate the offense. Rosie Akot and Morgan Mack also contributed inside and on the perimeter as LBSU continued to battle against the Bruins' depth.
The Beach carried that energy into the fourth quarter, where Reynoso connected on another three and finished with six points. Akot added seven points and four rebounds, while Kennan Ka and Khylee Pepe made late contributions as Long Beach State competed through the final horn.
Jones-Brown led LBSU with 10 points, while Akot and Ka each chipped in seven. The Beach bench totaled 22 points, marking one of the stronger reserve performances for Long Beach State this season.
Despite the final score, head coach Amy Wright emphasized the team's collective effort as a key takeaway from the contest.
"Even though it was a tough result on the scoreboard, I thought we competed together," Wright said. "That's an area we've been working to improve. At times this season we've played on an island, but today I saw five players on the floor competing collectively on both ends of the basketball. That growth has to continue. As our confidence builds, the wins will follow."
