
Men’s Water Polo Hosts No. 8 UC Davis On Saturday With Regular Season Title On The Line

Having already received a first-round bye, Long Beach State is looking to win the outright Big West regular-season championship.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 9 Long Beach State returns home to host No. 8 UC Davis on Saturday at Noon with a chance to crown a perfect run with the regular season title. The Beach is the only team undefeated in conference play after defeating No. 16 UC Irvine, 13-12, in an intense Black and Blue Rivalry game.
With the win over the Anteaters on the road, the Beach (14-8, 4-0 Big West) guaranteed a spot in the semifinals of the Big West Championships as the team looks to go for its second straight title.
Long Beach State is led by Gabi Acosta with 59 goals on the year, followed by Caleb Francisco with 51. Toring Stanley leads the team in assists with 26 and adds 29 goals on the year. Goalkeeper Joe Jenness has come off the bench in the past two games to help the Beach defense secure important wins. Jenness has recorded 86 saves while adding a team-high 15 steals and three assists.
This week's opponents, No. 8 UC Davis (12-11, 3-1 Big West), lost their first conference game as they hosted No. 10 UC Santa Barbara and suffered a comeback, losing 16-13. With the result, LBSU remained the only team undefeated in the league, clinching one of the top two spots.
Leading the Aggies in the season is redshirt sophomore Thomas Kiesling with 59 goals and leads the league tied with Acosta, Danilo Dragovic from UCSB, and Andrew Barnuevo from Cal State Fullerton. Another key factor for the UCD team is goalkeeper Baxton Chelsom, who has made 187 saves to lead the conference and added 37 steals so far this season.
Both teams faced each other earlier in the season at the Overnght MPSF Invite where the Aggies took the win over the Beach, 15-11.
