Men’s Water Polo Secures Big West Title With A Dominant Win Over No. 8 UC Davis

LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 9 Long Beach State secured the Big West regular season title after a dominant defensive performance over No. 8 UC Davis, 11-4, at the LBCC Aquatics Complex. Goalkeeper Joe Jenness shut down the Aggies' offense with 12 saves on the day.
Long Beach State (15-8, 5-0 Big West) got off to a strong start, leading 4-0 in the first half behind two goals from Caleb Francisco and penalty goals by Konstantinos Kapragkos and Sandro Pueyo. UC Davis (12-12, 3-2 Big West) scored late in the first to cut the lead to 4-1 after the opening eight minutes.
The Aggies scored two quick goals to shorten the Beach lead to 4-3. Three straight goals by LBSU put the Beach up by four at halftime, 7-3. Alec Johnson, Jason O'Donnell, and Gabi Acosta scored in the quarter to help Long Beach State.
UC Davis found the back of the net early in the third, but four goals from LBSU secured the win and capped a perfect run through the regular season. With an 11-4 score, the Beach held UC Davis to under 20% shooting and only four ejections.
The Beach will conclude the regular season with a non-conference matchup against No. 12 Loyola Marymount on November 13 at 7 p.m. at the LBCC Aquatics Complex. Long Beach State will honor their six seniors, and live stats will be provided through TheFOSH.net.
