Men’s Water Polo Finishes The Regular Season By Hosting LMU On Senior Night

The Beach will honor their six seniors after the match up against the Lions.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Fresh off a regular season title after a perfect 5-0 run in Big West play, No. 6 Long Beach State will conclude their regular season in a non-conference match against No. 11 Loyola Marymount on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the LBCC Aquatics Complex.
Long Beach State (15-8, 5-0 Big West) showed an impressive defensive effort in their dominant win over No. 9 UC Davis, 11-4, to secure the conference regular season title after going undefeated in Big West play. Goalkeeper Joe Jennes led the defense with 12 saves on the day as the Beach held the Aggies to under 20% shooting.
Scoring in 22 of 23 games, sophomore Gabi Acosta continues to impress this season with 61 goals scored and ranks second in the conference. Junior Caleb Francisco ranks second on the team with 53, while senior Toring Stanley leads the Beach with 29 assists and 19 steals. Graduate student Jason O'Donnell has been a force for LBSU's defense with an impressive 15 field blocks to lead the team and league in his final season.
Loyola Marymount (13-10, 3-3 WCC) split the past weekend, dropping a tough match on the road to No. 8 Pepperdine, 15-8, and defeating No. 10 UC San Diego at home, 18-14. Against the Tritons, junior Abel Ramon Corbalan scored an impressive 10 goals on 12 shots to lead the Lions' offense.
Graduate student Tommaso Baldineti leads the team with 62 goals on the season, followed by Ramon Corbalan with 54. Baldineti has a team-high 55 assists to go along with another team-high 29 steals. Goalkeeper Finn Friedland has recorded 154 saves so far this season to lead the Lions' defense.
