1/17/2025 10:30:00 AM | Women's Water Polo

The Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center will host a busy day of Water Polo with ten games.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – After an outstanding 2024 season, No. 8 Long Beach State Women's Water Polo is back in action this weekend as they host the Beach Invite at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics for a busy day of Water Polo. The Beach will face Azusa Pacific at 10:30 a.m. and Concordia at 6 p.m. to open their 2025 campaign.

The Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center will be the stage of ten matches this Saturday. Since 2021, the Beach has hosted the Beach Invite to kick off their season and this year the tournament will have a record of teams participating with a total of ten. Joining Long Beach State, Azusa Pacific and Concordia is Biola, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Monterrey Bay, No. 16 CSUN, Claremont Mudd-Scripps, No. 10 Loyola Marymount and No. 3 USC.

The Beach was picked to finish in third at the Big West Conference but received the most first-place votes in the preseason poll. Spanish duo senior Martina Cardona and junior Elisa Portillo were selected to the All-Big West Preseason Team. The duo combined for 99 goals in the past season, leading the Beach to the Big West Championship final.

Returning from a year training with the Australian national team is senior captain Jamie Oberman. Oberman has been a key player for the Beach and looks to make a difference with her leadership and defensive skills. Senior goalkeeper Chelsea Oliver is back in the goal for the Beach for her final season. Oliver has made 499 career saves and ranks sixth in program history.

Incoming freshmen Daniela Quinzada Gonzalez and Rita Gurri Capel join the Beach after winning the World Championship during summer with Team Spain and look to make an immediate impact in the team. Canadian duo Gaby Patenuade and Brooklyn Plomp have also represented their countries at the world stage and will be great additions to the team. Another international, Hungarian Zelma Koka is another talent playing her first year for Long Beach State.

After hosting the Beach Invite, Long Beach State will travel to Berkeley for the Cal Cup on January 25 and 26 where they will play four Top 10 teams.
