Long Beach State aims for a perfect weekend to start the season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After being picked to finish first in the Big West by the coaches, No. #10 Long Beach State will start the season at the Triton Invite hosted by UC San Diego. The Beach will face Westcliff on Saturday at 8 a.m. and at Noon they will play No. #4 USC. On Sunday they continue the tournament playing Bucknell at Noon and closing the weekend against Redlands at 4 p.m.
Returning seniors Evan Cain and Bruno Chiappini were selected to the Preseason All-Big West team and are expected to make another impact this season. Cain was second on the team in goals, scoring 60 in his junior year and now has 128 career goals. Chiappini was also an important player last year with 47 goals in 22 games. Both players received First Team All-Big West honors last season.
Freshman Corbin Stanley looks to impress in his debut at the college level after winning gold at the Pan American Championships with the USA Junior National Team this past May and playing at World Championship as well. Transfer goalkeeper Aaron Wilson is an addition to the Beach defense after playing at UC Davis and looks to share the cage with returning Senior Liam Ward.
