THE KICKOFF

Long Beach State has a pair of matches this week. The Beach hosts CSUN on Thursday night at 7 p.m. before hitting the road for the first time in Big West play when LBSU travels to UC San Diego.
 
Sunday's match up in La Jolla is a 6 p.m. start and will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
SCOUTING THE MATADORS
CSUN opened Big West play with a 1-1 tie against Cal State Fullerton last Sunday night. The Matadors are 2-7-1 overall.
 
Playing every minute in goal, Riley Liebsack leads the Big West in total saves with 58, ranking her 12th in Division I this week. She is 17th in Division I in minutes played (900) and 28th in Division I in saves per game (5.8), which also tops the Big West.
 
Cailey Jackson and Yoshi Rubalcava have combined to score four of the six CSUN goals this season (two each). Both have an assist to lead the squad in points (5).
 
AGAINST THE OPPONENT
Long Beach State leads the all-time series against CSUN 18-10-3.
 
SCOUTING THE TRITONS
UCSD opened Big West action last Thursday night with a 0-0 tie at home against UC Irvine. On Sunday, the Tritons concluded non-conference play when UCSD dropped a 1-0 decision at home against Pacific. UC San Diego is 2-6-2 overall.
 
The Tritons travel to UC Santa Barbara Thursday night before hosting LBSU.
 
Raquel Kalpakoff is fourth in the Big West in goals (4) and fifth in points (8). Courtney Hillard has scored twice and is tied for third in the conference in assists (3) with Kassandra Ceja. Her seven points are the eighth most in the league.
 
Bella Barretto and Ginny Fronk have split time in goal for the Tritons. Barretto is 1-2-2 with a 0.67 goals-against average in five matches. She has posted two shutouts and 18 saves. Fronk is 1-4 with a 1.45 goals-against average. Fronk has posted one shutout and 26 saves.

Long Beach State leads the all-time series against UC San Diego 9-0-1.
 
CEJA NAMED BIG WEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kassandra Ceja was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 23.

Ceja posted Long Beach State's first brace of the season when she scored twice in LBSU's 3-0 victory over UC Riverside on Sept. 22. 
She recorded the assist on Malea Johnson's game-winning goal against Cornell in the 1-0 victory over the Big Red.
 
Ceja leads the Beach in total points with seven. She paces LBSU in assists and is 141st in Division I, assists with three. Ceja is tied with Liz Worden and Makayla Demelo for the team lead in goals scored (2).
 
SCHUCK NAMED BIG WEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Aurora Schuck was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 23.
 
Schuck posted back-to-back shutouts Sept. 20-22. She charted one save during the Cornell victory. Against UC Riverside, Schuck made eight saves. Returning to the Texas match on Sept. 8, she has not allowed a goal in her last 243 minutes.
 
In her first season for the Beach, Schuck has played every minute (810) for LBSU in 2024, the 78th most in Division I beginning this week.
 
She has made 41 saves, the fourth most in the Big West and the 76th most in Division I beginning this week. Schuck's season-high in saves is nine, which she made against UCLA in the season opener.
This week, in the Division I rankings, Schuck is 78th in shutouts (3), 95th in saves per game (4.56), and 150th in save percentage (.774).
 
LAST TIME OUT
Long Beach State won a pair of matches last week. The Beach defeated Cornell 1-0 on Sept. 20 and UC Riverside 3-0 on Sept. 22. Here are the recaps;
