Complete Scores
Long Beach State picked up one spot in the team standings on Wednesday, moving past Utah Valley and Idaho who were tied with the Beach after the first two rounds Tuesday. Long Beach State's score of 274 also swept up six strokes on Colorado, who finished tied with the Beach at 9-under for the tournament. Colorado State, the hosts held off Utah Tech to capture the team title.
"The guys played really solid today to climb up the leaderboard," said head coach Rob Murray. "Charlie played really well over the summer, and that strong play has continued into this week."
Forster had three birdies without a bogey in the front nine to get off to a great start, and finished the day with a three-under par 67, tying for fourth in the 93-golfer field.
All four counting scores for Long Beach State were under par on the day. Alejandro de Castro Piera had the team's second eagle on one at the Ram Masters Invitational to get off to a great start on the day, and carried that momentum to a two-under par 68 on Wednesday. Junior Jaden Huggins was just one stroke back of that, making three birdies on the way to a 69, while Jack Cantlay had his best round of the tournament, an even par 70.
Clay Seeber had the team's drop score of 73, but still finished in a tie for 18th overall with Huggins and de Castro Piera as Long Beach State had four golfers in the Top 20.
A very rapid turnaround is next for Long Beach State, who will take a travel day and then open the William Tucker Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico from Albuquerque starting on Friday, September 20. Coverage of that tournament will be through Golfstat at https://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=participants&tid=29283.
"It's early in the season and we have some things we can improve and clean up, but we'll get a great chance to do that right away and be ready to go in New Mexico," said Murray.
