Long Beach State Picked To Finish First In Big West Conference; Two Named To Coaches Team

Evan Cain and Bruno Chiappini were selected to Preseason All-Big West Coaches Team.
LONG BEACH, Calif.—With the 2024 Men's Water Polo season scheduled to start next weekend at the Triton Invite, Long Beach State was picked to finish first in the Big West Conference as the league announced in its Preseason Coaches Poll.
Long Beach State edged the inaugural Big West Conference champions, UC Irvine, by one vote as the top pick to win the conference. UC San Diego was third on the poll with one first-place vote, followed by UC Davis in fourth, UC Santa Barbara in fifth and Cal State Fullerton finishing with the bottom of the poll.
Along with the preseason poll, the Big West also released its preseason All-Big West team where two Long Beach State players were selected. Senior attacker Evan Cain was selected to the team after being named First Team All-Big West in the 2023 season, where he scored 60 goals and notched 21 assists. Along with Cain, Senior utility Bruno Chiappini, was also chosen. Chiappini scored 47 goals and recorded 25 assists in the previous season, being awarded First Team All-Big West as well.
The Beach will start their 2024 season at the Triton Invite on September 7th against Westcliff at 8 a.m. in La Jolla, Calif.
