LONG BEACH, Calif.—The Long Beach State cross country teams open the 2024 season this week when the Beach travels to Pepperdine's Waves Invitational Friday afternoon.

The men's 6k race begins at 4:30 p.m., with the women's 4k race starting at 5:15 p.m. Live stats are available on LongBeachState.com.

From Pepperdine, the Beach will enter the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 21. LBSU is scheduled to compete in a pair of meets on Oct. 19 at UCR (the Highlander Invitational) and Santa Clara (the Bronco Invitational).

UC Riverside hosts the Big West Championships on Nov. 2. Washington State hosts the NCAA West Regional on Nov. 15. The NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships are set for Nov. 23 in Verona, Wis.

THE LBSU MEN
Long Beach State returns five entries who competed for the program at the 2023 Big West and NCAA Regional Championships. A graduate student, Quinn Garity, was the top-finishing Beach entry at the conference meet, while sophomore Cameron Rhone recorded the top place for LBSU at the NCAA Regionals.

Two newcomers, Ethan Florez and Levi Taylor, join the team for 2024. Florez ran track for the Beach last Spring. Taylor is an Iowa State transfer who competed for the Cyclones in cross country and track.

THE LBSU WOMEN
School 6k record holder Allie Scimia leads the returning letterwinners for the Long Beach State women's program. She was the top finisher for the Beach at the Big West and NCAA Regional meets last season. Leia Jones turned in a top-30 performance at the Big West Championships the previous season, while Alyssa Tapanes was the second-fastest Beach entry at the NCAA Regional Championships. Â
