Long Beach State Heads To Riverside For UCR Invitational

The Beach will compete on the course that will host the Big West Championships later this season
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State cross country returns to action Saturday, Sept. 19, at the UC Riverside Invitational at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course.
The women's 6K Invitational will begin at 7:15 a.m., followed by the men's 8K Invitational at 7:50 a.m. The mostly flat course features several rolling hills and hard-packed dirt as it winds through UC Riverside's Agricultural Operations Center and its 100-year-old citrus trees.
Saturday will mark the second meet of the season for the Beach and provide an early opportunity to compete on the same course that will host the Big West Championships on Oct. 31.
Long Beach State opened the season with a strong performance from the men at the Mark Covert Classic on Sept. 5. The Beach placed second with 59 points, finishing just five points behind team champion Cal State Fullerton.
Cameron Gill led the men with a third-place finish in the 8K, crossing the line in 25:12.4. Miles Jones placed fifth in 25:16.6, while Cameron Rhone finished seventh in 25:20.7. The trio finished within 8.3 seconds of one another and gave Long Beach State three runners among the top seven.
On the women's side, Brooke Willoughby paced Long Beach State with a 25th-place finish in the 6K, recording a time of 21:30.1. Darcy Ray followed in 29th at 21:40.7, while Kendall Bawden placed 41st in 22:02.6.
Results for the UCR Invitational will be available through Finished Results following each race.
After Saturday's meet, Long Beach State will return to competition at the Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17, in Sunnyvale, California.
