
Cory Curtis Jr. Commits To Join Long Beach State

An elite scorer at the junior college level, the junior guard joins the first recruiting class under Chris Acker.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – One of the top scorers nationally in junior college last season, guard Cory Curtis Jr. will return to Southern California and play with Long Beach State starting in 2024-25.

Independence CC/Panola CC
Cory Curtis Jr. had a breakout season last year as a sophomore with Independence College in Kansas, ranking eighth in the NJCAA Division I at 23.2 points per game. Shooting 32.5 percent from three, Curtis Jr. was also an able facilitator and defender, averaging 3.3 assists per game and 1.7 steals per game while grabbing 4.7 rebounds per game in an average of 32.9 minutes per contest.
Scoring a career-high 40 points against Hutchinson last season, Curtis Jr. scored over 30 points five times last season and had 14 or more points in 25 of 26 games played with Independence as a sophomore. Curtis Jr. spent the 2022-23 season in Florida with junior college powerhouse Panola CC, playing in 30 games with the Ponies as the team went 28-5 in the 2022-23 season. A redshirt in 2021-22, Curtis Jr. completed his high school career at View Park Prep in Los Angeles.

Curtis is the second junior college transfer joining the Beach as part of Chris Acker's first recruiting class, joining 7-1 center Christian Richardson, who also played in the highly competitive KJCCC. The two juco players join six Division I transfers in Devin Askew, Cam Denson, Austin Johnson, Ramel Lloyd Jr., TJ Wainwright and Derrick Michael Xzavierro. That veteran experience will complement three returning players in Varick Lewis, Jason Hart Jr., and Eli Djordjevic along with freshmen Kam Martin and Andrew Nagy.
