
Long Beach State Track & Field Athletes Earn CSC Academic Honors

The six Beach athletes advance to the national Academic All-America Ballot
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Collegiate Sports Communicators (CSC) has announced the recipients of Academic All-District honors for men's and women's track and field, celebrating high achievement in academics and athletics. Long Beach State had six student-athletes recognized.
Conrad Bernstein, Nikolaj Freschlin, and Elijah Harris were on the men's side, earning the award.
Bernstein posted a personal best throw of 216-5 in the javelin at the Beach Invitational, the eighth-best in school history. That mark qualified him for the NCAA West Regional, where he finished 30th in the field of 48, throwing over 200 feet for the fourth time during the season (206-11). He earned All-Big West Conference honors in the javelin when he finished third (199-2).
Freschlin qualified for the NCAA West Regional in the javelin with the fourth-longest toss in school history, 229-8, which won the Big West Challenge Cup. He threw 220-11 at the NCAA regionals and was in the top 12 until the third flight, finishing 17th in the field of 48. Freschlin was the Big West runner-up in the javelin (211-4), leading the meet until the final throw. He entered five javelin competitions, finishing first or second four times.
Harris became the MPSF Champion in the long jump with the 10th longest leap in school history, 23-9. He was the runner-up in the triple jump at the MPSFs after posting the ninth-longest performance in school history, 49-9 1/4. Harris qualified for the NCAA West Regional in the triple jump with a career-best 51-0 3/4 during his third-place showing at the Stanford Invitational. After fouling on his three attempts, he did not place at regionals. Harris earned All-Big West Conference honors in the long jump, finishing second by tying his career best, 24-8 1/4. He placed fifth in the Big West Championships' triple jump (48-10 1/4).
Earning the honor for the LBSU women were Rori Denness-Lamont, Jenelle Hurley, and Sofia Lavreshina.
Denness-Lamont won the Big West javelin in style, breaking her school record on her sixth and final throw with a toss of 174-8. She took home top honors by nearly 26 feet over second-place Malia Benson of UC Santa Barbara. Her championship throw was only the fourth time a Big West javelin champion had thrown at least 170 feet during the competition. She qualified for the NCAA West Regional in the javelin, where she finished 25th. Denness-Lamont initially broke the javelin school record at the Beach Opener, throwing 172-8, to win the event. She reset the school mark for the second time when she won the Big West Challenge Cup with a throw of 174-5. Denness-Lamont set the school mark for the third time when she won the Triton Invite with a toss of 174-6. She won four of the seven javelin competitions during the regular season and finished second twice.
Hurley finished third in the high jump, clearing an indoor season-best 5-6, at the MPSF Championships. She was seventh in the long jump at the MPSF's. Hurley recorded the third-longest long jump in school history, 19-4 3/4, to place third at the season-opening Air Force Lindeman Invitational. Moving to the outdoor campaign, Hurley was the runner-up in the heptathlon at the Big West Championships, scoring 5,164 points at the Big West, the fifth most in school history. She placed seventh in the high jump at the Big West Championships by tying her best with a leap of 5-5 3/4. She tossed the javelin a personal best 121-0 to place 13th at the Big West.
Lavreshina reset the indoor school record in the 400m by running 53.68aa to win the event at the Air Force Lindeman Invitational. She won the 400m MPSF title in a time of 53.73. Lavreshina placed fourth in the 200m at the MPSF's by running the third fastest time in school history, 24.21. She helped the 4x400m finish fourth at the MPSFs as the team ran the fourth fastest time in school history, 3:48.17. The junior was part of the 4x400m relay that ran the fifth fastest time in school history, 3:48.29, at the Don Kirby Invitational.
The outdoor campaign saw Lavreshina qualify for the NCAA West Regional in the 400m hurdles by running 59.02. She lowered her seventh fastest 400m hurdles time to 58.97 at the regional meet, improving her seed time (48th) to place 27th at the regional meet. She earned All-Big West Conference honors in the 400m after she finished second in the event. Lavreshina ran the fourth quickest time in school history, 54.25, during the Big West prelims. She ran on the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams for the Beach at the Big West Championships as both teams finished seventh. At the World Relays in the Bahamas, Lavershina represented her home country, Portugal, running the anchor leg of Portugal's 4x400 squad, which finished fourth in their heat (3:35.64).
Nominees for the honor must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, be a sophomore standing or above academically, and meet stringent performance minimums in their respective sports. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
