
Women’s Golf In Qualifying Positions After First Round At NCAA Regionals

Long Beach State in fifth place overall with Andee Avery, Jasmine Leovao in Top 10.
CLE ELUM, Wash. -- Big West Freshman of the Year Andee Avery shot a two-under par 70 on Monday, leading Long Beach State and placing in the top five after the first of three rounds from Tumble Creek Club in the NCAA Regional from Cle Elum.
Avery was 2-under par in her first nine holes and held that place for the rest of the day to finish tied for fifth place overall, three strokes out of the lead held by Duke's Anne Chen. Sophomore Jasmine Leovao was also in the Top 10 with an even par 72.
Senior Angelina Kim also had a strong start to the day and finished one-over par with a 73, tied for 16th overall. Sophomore Madison Le was the fourth scorer on the day for Long Beach State with a 77, while Janae Leovao shot 78.
As a team, Long Beach State closed the day at 292 (+4), three strokes behind Virginia and two strokes in front of Kansas in the fifth and final qualifying position after the first 18 holes. Duke was atop the team leaderboard at 6-under, while Stanford and Arizona State sit second and third after the first day.
The top five teams from all six regional sites will advance to the NCAA Championship to be played May 17-22 in Carlsbad, Calif.
