LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Men's Basketball has secured a new commitment, the first incoming transfer of the Chris Acker Era as Derrick Michael Xzavierro will join the Beach in 2024-25.
DERRICK MICHAEL XZAVIERRO
Forward, 6-10, 235
Jakarta, Indonesia (NBA Global Academy)
Grand Canyon
A 6-10 forward from Grand Canyon, Xzavierro is a highly touted recruit with a ton of upside who is the first player from Indonesia to be a Division I scholarship player in Men's Basketball. With Grand Canyon, Xzavierro played in 14 games last season and made a trip with the 'Lopes to the postseason but was still recovering from a major medical procedure following a collapsed lung suffered in 2022, limiting his time on the floor.
An imposing athlete with a seven-foot wingspan, Xzaverrio came to the states after playing the NBA Global Academy in Canberra, Australia, a move he made after playing for the Indonesian National Team from 2019 to 2022. His best game with GCU came against Bethesda, where he had a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds last December.
Acker on Xzavierro:
"Derrick is a high character young man. That will bolster what we are trying to build here. His size and skill set will really help our program get to another level. His shooting ability and athleticism are special assets that we plan on utilizing and maximizing. Being a native of Indonesia, he has a tremendous following and our program is so excited for DMX to hit the campus and get going."
The roster quickly continues to build, as Xzavierro is joined by a pair of incoming high school freshmen in 6-9 Forward Andrew Nagy and 6-4 guard Kam Martin as newcomers to the Beach for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
