Jake Jackson's two-out RBI single in the top of the first broke the seal for the Aztecs. Zane Kelly followed with an RBI double for a 2-0 score.
SDSU starter Chris Canavan walked Kyle Ashworth and Adrian Lopez to begin the bottom of the first. After a mound visit, Canavan hit Cole Santander on a 2-2 pitch to load the bases. John Newman Jr.'s sac fly to right scored Ashworth for the Dirtbags. Jack Hammond singled through the left side to drive in Lopez, tying the game at two. Canavan hit Alex Champagne to load the bases once again.

Batting around, Ashworth was hit by a Canavan fastball to load the bases for the third time in the inning. Lopez struck out before Santander walked, scoring the seventh run. Aidan Russell relieved Canavan and closed the inning by striking out Newman Jr.
San Diego State loaded the bases in the top of the third as the first three batters reached base on a catcher's interference and a pair of base hits. Kelly hit a grounder to Hammond at first. He threw home to get the first out. The bases remained loaded for Evan Sipe. Van Larson, the Dirbags starter, induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Josh Quezada walked on four pitches to begin the fourth inning for the Aztecs. Brady Lavoie doubled down the right field line. Finley Bates' single to right scored Quezada. As Lavoie came across, Shaun Montoya grounded into a 4-6 fielder's choice. Tino Bethancourt lined out to Lopez at short. Lopez tried to double off Montoya at first, but his throw was high, allowing Montoya to advance. Jacob McCombs grounded out to close the frame.
Newman Jr. walked to lead off the bottom of the fourth. With the count 2-0 on Hammond, Newman Jr. stole second. Hammond ran the count to 3-2 against Russell before working out a walk. Champagne successfully sacrificed both runners up a base with his bunt. With the infield against Briseno, the Long Beach State third baseman hit a grounder to Quezada at second. He took the ball himself to first as Newman Jr. scored. Marinconz walked to give Long Beach State runners on the corners. Roulston struck out for the final out.
Nathen Morris relieved Larson to begin the fifth. He walked Jackson before allowing Kelly's infield single. Briseno tried to throw behind to get Jackson at second, but his throw was wide, sending Jackson to third. Sipe. Sipe hit a liner to center that Champagne dove for, and he came up with it for an out. Jackson scored on the play. Morris struck out Quezada on a 3-2 count. Kelly was thrown out attempting to steal by Newman Jr. to end the inning.
Ashworth was hit by a pitch for the second time to start the bottom of the fifth. He advanced to second on a Lopez fly ball to right center. Santander hit a double to the opposite field in right to drive in Ashworth. Michael Caruso relieved Russell and walked Newman Jr. and Hammond to load the bases. Champagne's sac fly scored Santander as all the runners moved up a base. A pitch hit Briseno to load the bases. Marinconz grounded out too short to keep the Dirtbag's lead at five.
Santander and Newman Jr. recorded RBI doubles in the bottom of the sixth to increase the advantage to 12-5.
Ashworth reached base in each of his six plate appearances. He walked three times, was hit by two pitches, and recorded a single. Ashworth scored three times. Santander went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, two doubles, and two RBI. Briseno, Newman Jr., and Roulston each drove in two runs.

With both teams declaring that Tuesday's game would be a staff day, Larson (2-0) picked up the win despite only going four innings. Canavan falls to 0-3 for the Aztecs, who dropped to 11-25 overall.
