3/30/2024 2:11:00 PM | Women's Water Polo

The Beach held off the Matadors 15-6 to extend winning streak to 10.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - No. 6 Long Beach State continued their dominant play by taking down No. 25 Cal State Northridge on the road Saturday afternoon 15-6. The Beach extended their winning streak to 10 and remain undefeated in conference at 3-0. Lara Luka led the Beach with four goals and two assists in the win.

Long Beach State came out firing and scored two early goals, credited to Mariah Walker and Elisa Portillo, to put the Beach on the board to start today's contest. Luka found the back of the cage for her first goal followed by Rachael Kowalchick. The Matadors responded with three goals of their own to bring the Beach lead to one after the first period.

The Beach started the second period right where they left off with two goals from Martina Cardona and Amanda Price. Portillo scored her second goal of the game before CSUN added two to their score. Luka and Brace Cuozzo scored back-to-back goals to take a 9-5 lead headed into halftime.

Walker found the back of the cage to start the third period for the Beach. Two more goals from Luka and a big defensive stand gave the Beach a 12-5 lead at the end of the third period.

The Beach continued their dominance offensively as Walker and two goals from Chiara Amoroso found the net to start the final period. The Matadors would only score one goal in the fourth period but couldn't overcome the Beach lead. Long Beach State secured the win 15-6.

Chelsea Oliver was a key player behind the cage in today's game. She had a season-high 14 saves, one shy of her career-high, in the win. Oliver only allowed the Matadors one goal in the second half.

Luka led all players with four goals and two assists in the win. Walker contributed three goals while Portillo added two. Portillo is one goal away from reaching 100 career goals with the Beach.

The Beach will return home to Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center for two big conference games next week. They will take on UC Davis Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. and Hawaii Sunday, April 7 at Noon. Sunday's game will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and Beach fans can follow along at thefosh.net for both games.
