LONG BEACH, Calif.- No. 7 Long Beach State had a strong defensive performance to defeat No. 13 UC Davis 14-7 and improve to 4-0 in conference. Rachael Kowalchick had a season-high four goals in the win as Elisa Portillo scored her 100th career goal to extend the Beach winning streak to 11.

Mariah Walker and Chiara Amoroso came out firing to score two early goals for the Beach. UC Davis responded with two goals of their own to tie it up at 2-2 to end the first period.

The Aggies turned it up and scored two straight goals to start the second period. Three straight goals from Kowalchick, Lara Luka, and Martina Cardona put the Beach up 5-4 at halftime.

Anne de Kleer scored a quick goal to start the third period, before UC Davis added one of their own to keep it a one-point game. Kowalchick took control of the third quarter and scored three straight goals, including a full length shot after a steal in the final seconds to end the third period up 9-5.

Mariah Walker scored her second goal of the game to start the final quarter. Elisa Portillo swam past defenders to score her 100th goal in her career. Grace Cuozzo found the wide open Amanda Price for a goal before the Aggies added two goals of their own. Two more goals from Cardona and Luka secured the Beach win 14-7.

Defensively, Chelsea Oliver came up big tonight with 11 saves and two steals in the win. Portillo reached 100 career goals in her sophomore season and became the 23rd Beach player to hit this milestone and the third this season, joining Rachael Kowalchick and Lara Luka.
