Lara Luka Named Big West Player Of The Week

Luka led Long Beach State to a perfect 3-0 weekend at the Michigan Invite.
IRVINE, Calif.- Senior Lara Luka was named Big West Player of the Week as announced by the conference Wednesday. Luka earned the honors after an outstanding performance at the Michigan Invite for No. 6 Long Beach State, leading the Beach to a 3-0 weekend.Â
Last weekend, Luka was a threat from both sides of the pool. Offensively, she totaled 10 goals on a .635 shot percentage for the tournament, including four goals against No. Bucknell. She also had 10 assists and seven steals over the weekend.Â
In the win over Bucknell, Luka reached 100 career goals with the Beach in under two seasons. She becomes the 23rd player to reach the career milestone and joins teammate Rachael Kowalchick in reaching the milestone this season.Â
Luka has been a key player for the Beach all season. She leads the team in goals with 67 and in assists with 35. She has scored in 20 of 21 games this season, including 18 straight games. Her defensive efforts have been impressive this season as she is second on the team with 23 steals.Â
The senior is ranked second in the Big West in goals and third in assists and points. She is also in the top five for sprints won and points per game. Nationally, Luka is in the top five for goals and assists.Â
