Bryan Posts Career Best In Heptathlon

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—Milo Orona recorded the 10th-highest point total to earn the runner-up slot in the decathlon in Long Beach State history. At the same time, Allie Bryan finished sixth in the heptathlon at the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic Multi's Friday.
DECATHLON
Orona scored 7,020 points, finishing second to UC Irvine's Max Daniels by 176 points.
Orona was fifth in the 110m hurdles (16.01), fourth in the discus (119-2), and third in the pole vault (13-7 1/4). He placed third in the javelin (178-0) and finished the meet by running, winning the 1500m in a career-best time of 4:49.76.
Teammate Aidan Turner finished third with 6,520 points. Turner finished second in the 110m hurdles (15.54), second in the discus (125-6), and sixth in the javelin (36-9). Turner, a freshman, reset his season high in the pole vault when he won the event with a 15-3 mark. He ended the competition by finishing second in the 1500m (5:04.68).
HEPTATHLON
Bryan posted her new LBSU high with 4,387 points to come in seventh. She finished 13th in the long jump (15-8 3/4), ninth in the javelin (92-9), and a career-best 2:29.66 to record a fifth-place showing in the 800m.
Sofia Bailey scored 4,155 points to finish ninth. She was second in the long jump, posting a career-best leap of 18-6 1/2. Bailey was eighth in the javelin (95-7). She did not start the 800m.
Jenelle Hurley did not start in the 200m and the 800m and fouled in the long jump. She scored 2,616 points in the other four events, resulting in a 14th-place finish. Hurley had the top LBSU finish in the javelin, throwing 105-7 for fifth. She did not compete in the 800m.
Hailey Fune' competed in two of the three events on Friday, winning the long jump with a leap of 18-11 3/4. Fune' did not record a final score.
UC Irvine's Jolie Robinson won the heptathlon with 5,213 points.
The Beach is also entered in this weekend's USC Ron & Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational and Saturday's 45th San Diego State Aztec Invitational.
