RIVERSIDE, Calif.—Long Beach State's Milo Orona is second in the decathlon. At the same time, Sofia Bailey is sixth in the heptathlon after day one of the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic Multi's Thursday.
DECATHLON
Orona has scored 3,766 points, trailing the leader, UC Irvine's Max Daniels by 126 points. Teammate Aidan Turner is in third, 172 back of Daniels (3,720).
Orona was third in the 100m (11.18), second in the long jump (22-10 3/4), and third in the shot put (41-5). Orona won the high jump with a leap of 6-1 1/2. The sophomore won the 400m in a career-best time of 50.21.
Turner finished second in the 100m (10.95), third in the long jump (22-9 3/4), and second in the shot put (41-8). Turner tied for second (5-10) in the high jump with Daniels before finishing second in the 400m (50.61).
HEPTATHLON
Bailey has scored 2,951 points. Bailey was seventh in the 100m hurdles (15.10) and ninth in the high jump (5-0 3/4). Bailey placed sixth in the shot put (36-0 3/4). A senior, Bailey was third in the 200m with a career-best time of 25.14.
Alli Bryan is eighth after scoring 2,743 points. Bryan was 12th in the 100m hurdles (16.04) and seventh in the high jump (5-1 1/4). Bryan finished 11th in the shot put (33-10 1/4) and sixth in the 200m (26.03). Bryan's 200m time is career best.
Hailey Fune' is 13th with 2,383 points after winning the 100m hurdles (13.76) and finishing second in the high jump (5-6). Fune' was 13th in the field of 16 in the shot (33-4). She did score in the 200m. Jenelle Hurley is scored in 16th (2,098). Hurley finished eighth in the 100m hurdles (15.20), fifth in the high jump (5-2 1/2), 10th in the shot put (34-3 1/2). Hurley did not complete the 200m.
UCLA's Jada Sims leads the competition (3,243).
The multi's conclude on Friday at UCR with the decathlon beginning at 11 a.m. and the heptathlon beginning at Noon.
The Beach is also entered in the USC Ron & Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational beginning on Friday and Saturday's 45th San Diego State Aztec Invitational.
