As a team, Long Beach State has won four straight competitions.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State will return to tournament play starting Tuesday at the GCU Invitational, hosted by Grand Canyon at the Grand Canyon Golf Course.
Long Beach State's own home tournament was washed out by the atmospheric river in Southern California, so the GCU Invitational marks the first tournament action since the fall for Long Beach State. The Beach won their last two tournaments in the fall, the Golf Iconic Classic and The Clash at Boulder Creek. In preparation for the spring, the Beach also claimed two tri-dual championship against CSUN and CSUB as well as against Boise State and UC Riverside.
Early morning starts will be ahead for the Beach, with shotgun starts beginning at 7 a.m. PT on both days, with 36 holes scheduled Tuesday followed by a final round on Wednesday.
The field will include 21 teams, with three other Big West programs taking part in UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton. In addition to the four Big West teams and the hosts, Grand Canyon, other teams scheduled to participate include Oral Roberts, Idaho, Tarleton State, Southern Utah, Seattle, Houston Christian, Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona, Seton Hall, Montana State, North Dakota, Eastern Washington, Marshall, New Mexico State, UTEP and North Dakota State.
For the Beach, Jasmine Leovao will lead off the lineup after her top finish for the team at the latest competition, the Boise State/UCR tri-dual where she shot a second-round 67 to finish 2-under par over 36 holes. Next up is Andee Avery who also had a podium finish at Monterey Country Club in the latest tri-dual.
Janae Leovao will play third for the Beach after a strong fall where she was the top finisher for the Beach in three of four tournaments. Senior Angelina Kim will play fourth and Kristina Ponomareva will move into the lineup for the Beach in Arizona. Freshman Erin Lee will compete as an individual as well at the GCU Invitational.
