Wisconsin Drops Long Beach State In Cathedral City

Long Beach State plays two Sunday to close out their time at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Long Beach State was stopped by a tremendous pitching performance from Shelby Jacobson, who went the distance for the Badgers in a 4-0 win for Wisconsin.
Jacobson held Long Beach State (1-11) to just one hit on the day, provided by Sara Olson in the first inning on the way to a shutout. Long Beach State threatened in the top of the third inning as well, as Lilyanna Martinez was hit by a pitch and Olson reached on a catcher's interference, but a long fly ball from Sinclair Lawhorn came up just short of the fence to end the best chance for the Beach on the day.
Two doubles from Wisconsin (7-8) gave the Badgers the game's first lead in the bottom of the second. A third hit in the second, an RBI double from Skyler Sirdashney made the score 2-0 in favor of Wisconsin. Back-to-back doubles in the third added one more run for the Badgers, but the Beach were able to get out of the frame with no further issues as Savannah Magadan caught the lead runner off of the third for an out to end the inning.
The Badgers added one more run after a leadoff double from Peyton Bannon, scoring a fourth with a pair of long fly outs including a sacrifice fly.
Long Beach Sate will close their time at the Mary Nutter with a pair of games on Sunday, facing off with No. 21 California at 9 a.m. before closing the tournament at 11:30 a.m. against Fresno State. The Beach will then host Michigan on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in the team's home opener on ESPN+.
