Despite an early 7-0 run by the Roadrunners to put the hosts up 9-3 by 6:19, the first quarter was a close one as the Beach closed the gap after a steal and layup by Sydney Woodley at 5:55 to pull within two (9-7). From there, the game remained close. Tucker hit a three at 1:26 to even the score at 23-all. But Bakersfield sunk two free throws at the end of the frame to take a 25-23 lead into the second quarter.
The Roadrunners opened the second quarter with seven-straight points to take a 34-25 advantage over Long Beach State. The Beach fell behind by as many as 13 (41-28) by 4:30. A layup from Woodley at 9:26 tied the game at 41-41 to start the third quarter. Cheyenne Givens hit a three-pointer at 3:34 to even the score once more (46-all) which kicked of an 8-0 LBSU run. Tucker added to her point total with a layup and a triple in that stretch as the Beach went up 51-46 with 1:56 remaining in the frame. The Roadrunners managed to pull within one (51-50), but the Beach stayed in the driver's seat as the visitors took a 56-52 lead into the fourth quarter.
Long Beach State led by as many as six points in several occasions throughout the game. Despite the Roadrunners edging the Beach in scoring in the final 10 minutes of action, 15-13, Long Beach State took a two-point advantage (66-64) into the final minute of action. Porter hit 1-of-2 free throws to bring Bakersfield within one (66-65) with 20 seconds remaining. But Matthews put the Beach back up by two (67-65) with a free throw of her own. Chung gave LBSU its final two points on a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining. Those made free throws would prove to be crucial as Olivares hit a jumper at the buzzer as Long Beach State hung on to win 69-67.
