Avery’s Strong Spring Start Continues In First Day Of Boise State/UC Riverside Tri-Dual

A true freshman, Avery was the individual champion at the CSUB/CSUN Tri-Dual earlier to start the spring season.
PALM DESERT, Calif. – Freshman Andee Avery finished the first day with a share of the lead, highlighting a strong start for Long Beach State that saw LBSU hold a three-stroke lead over Boise State in the team competition at the end of the first of two days at Monterey Country Club.
Avery shot a two-under par 70 in Palm Desert, utilizing four birdies on the day to share the lead with Boise State's Leia Chung after 18 holes. UC Riverside's Vanessa Betancourt held third place on the day with an even par 72.
Long Beach State's twin sisters Janae Leovao and Jasmine Leovao each shot a one-over 73 to share fourth place after the opening day with Boise State's Elli Gordon and Hannah Lim. Madison Le was the team's final scorer, one spot behind with a two-over par 74.
In the team competition, Long Beach State holds a three-stroke lead over the Broncos at +2 while Boise State sits at +5 after a competitive first day. The Highlanders are also within striking distance, +14 and nine strokes behind the Broncos led by Betancourt's solid round on Thursday.
