Supa's 86th Minute Header Sends LBSU Past CSUB 1-0

Schuck Leads Long Beach State to its fourth shutout of the year
LONG BEACH, Calif--Kailey Supa's header in the 86th minute earned Long Beach State a 1-0 victory over Cal State Bakersfield Sunday night at George Allen Field.

The first half was evenly played, with much of the play being conducted in the midfield. LBSUÂ held a slight edge in possession, 52-48. The Beach outshot the Roadrunners 5-3. Long Beach State's Liz Worden and Siena Navarra recorded shots on goal but were turned away by 'Runner goalie Kamy Anay.

Play began fast in the second half as Anay saved Summer Laskey's attempt in the 48th minute. The Roadrunners sped down the field on the ensuing possession, resulting in Paige Rodriguez finding Karen Flores with a wide-open net. Flores couldn't take advantage as she went wide right.

Sara Ybarra had her attempt blocked by the Long Beach State defense a little over a minute later. Jordan Candelaria took the next two shots for the Beach, but both were off target. The Roadrunners pressured in the 82nd minute as LBSU goalie Aurora Schuck saved Isis Salazar-Ortega's blast. CSUB's Hildur Jonasdottir followed with an effort that Schuck also saved.

Julia Moore began the game-winning play with a pass to Worden. Worden dribbled down the left side. At 10 yards, she crossed the ball into the box, where Supa redirected the ball past Anaya. The Beach defense withstood the Roadrunners in the final five minutes, not allowing a shot attempt, as the Beach secured the victory.

Schuck recorded her fourth shutout of the season as she made saves on the three Roadrunner shots on goal. LBSU outshot Cal State Bakersfield (5-9-2, 3-2-1 Big West) 10-9, 4-3 on goal. The 'Runners posted five corner kicks compared to one for the Beach. The Roadrunners were booked for three yellow cards and 11 fouls. Long Beach State was whistled for one yellow card and eight fouls.
