Liz Worden Takes Five Shots, Three On Goal For the Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif.— Cal State Fullerton defeated Long Beach State 2-0 in Big West women's soccer action Sunday night at George Allen Field.

The teams traded shots that went high in the first 10 minutes. Cal State Fullerton's keeper Ranson punched away a Kailey Supa header in the 13th minute. On the ensuing Titans' possession, LBSU goalie Aurora Schuck turned away Makenna McGill's shot inside the 18. McGill attacked the Beach net off a corner in the 17th. She dribbled inside the six-yard box, where Schuck saved her attempt again.

Liz Worden's blast in the 25th minute was on its way before Ranson knocked the ball over the crossbar. The Titans successfully defended the resulting corner kick to keep the match scoreless. Supa and Worden followed several attempts in the next two minutes, but both were high.

The Titans broke the seal in the 37th minute. Isabella Cruz passed to Jenae Perez. Perez took one dribble, and her attempt from 25 yards went into the top right of the Long Beach State goal.

Cal State Fullerton (5-9-3, 3-3-2 Big West) increased the lead to 2-0 when Kaylee Noble converted a penalty kick in the 48th minute.

Makayla Demelo stole the ball from a Cal State Fullerton defender in the 71st minute. She dribbled inside the Titans' 18, where her shot went just wide left. The Titans recorded a pair of attempts in the 82nd minute, both off-target. Worden's blast in the 84th went low, but Ranson made the save. Ranson saved Sienna Navarra's effort in the 87th.

The clubs played in front of a crowd of 1,721, the fourth largest in school history. Both teams took 10 shots, with LBSU holding a 6-4 advantage on goal. Worden took five shots for Long Beach State, three on goal. Cal State Fullerton posted six corner kicks, while the Beach had four. Each team was whistled for 14 fouls, and both teams were booked for two yellow cards. Ranson made six saves while Schuck charted two.
