The Beach Pick Up A 3-1 Road Win At Cal State Bakersfield

Jaylen Jordan led LBSU with 15 kills, while Madi Maxwell and Natalie Glenn each registered a double-double in the Beach’s win over the Roadrunners
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After earning a 3-1 [21-25, 16-25, 19-25, 13-25] victory over Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, Long Beach State has now won seven of its last eight matches.
The Beach (11-5, 5-1 Big West) hit .311 in the contest and held the Roadrunners (9-9, 3-3 Big West) to a .111 attack percentage as LBSU moves into a tie with UC Davis for first place in The Big West standings.
Redshirt junior outside hitter Jaylen Jordan came off the bench and led all scorers with 15 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. She also added three blocks and two digs on the defensive end.
Recording double-doubles for the Beach were freshman Madi Maxwell and senior Natalie Glenn. Maxwell finished the match with 12 kills, 11 digs, five aces, and four assists, while Glenn posted 11 kills, 11 digs, five blocks, and three assists.
Senior setter Zayna Meyer did a good job running the LBSU offense as she distributed 39 assists, while also recording seven digs, four kills, three blocks, and one ace.
Kameron Bacon, a senior middle blocker, had a strong game on the defensive end and she led the team with eight blocks, while also chipping in six kills, one dig, and one assist.
The Beach got off to a slow start as they fell behind Cal State Bakersfield, 10-7 in the opening set. The Roadrunners used a 6-0 run to take a 16-9 lead over the Beach, but LBSU closed the gap after scoring five-straight points to make it a three-point game (18-15). However, that was as close as Long Beach would get as Cal State Bakersfield went on to take the first set, 25-21.
Long Beach kicked its offense into high gear in the second set as the Beach hit an impressive .700 (15-1-20) and owned an 87% sideout percentage. LBSU used a pair of 5-0 runs to jump out in front of the 'Runners, 13-4. A kill from Glenn gave the Beach a double-digit lead (18-8) as they cruised to a 25-16 victory.
With the match knotted 1-1, Cal State Bakersfield opened the third set scoring three-consecutive points to take an early 3-0 lead. The lead would not last long as the Beach went on a 6-0 run to go up 15-10. From there, LBSU continued to add to its advantage and found themselves up by double-figures (24-14) once again. The 'Runners wouldn't go quietly as they strung together five-straight points to make it a 24-19 game, before the Beach put the game away, 25-19.
The Beach's hot hitting continued into the third set as they hit .632 (14-2-19) and never trailed in the set. Long Beach State started the frame with a 3-0 lead that they would not relinquish. LBSU used a 5-0 run, followed by a 6-0 run to take another 10-point advantage (17-7) over Bakersfield. During that run, Maxwell served up three aces to bring her total to five, setting a new career-high for herself. With the momentum in the Beach's favor, Long Beach State rolled to a 25-13 victory over Cal State Bakersfield to earn the 3-1 win.
Valentina Sarti Cipriani and Sydney Dunning led the 'Runners with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Nene Hawkins and Vivana Samaniego split time at setter finishing with 14 and 12 assists each. Sarti Cipriani also led Bakersfield with eight blocks, while Learden Lee added six. Libero Katerina Georgiadis closed the match with 11 digs in the backrow.
Long Beach State returns home to host UC Irvine on Friday, October 18 at 7 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
