Elisa Portillo And Rachael Kowalchick Selected Preseason All-Big West

The senior and sophomore were two of seven players recognized by the coaches prior to the season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Senior Rachael Kowalchick and sophomore Elisa Portillo were both named to the Preseason All-Big West Coaches Team, as the Big West announced the results of the preseason coaches voting on Monday.
Rachael Kowalchick was one of two Beach players named to the Preseason Coaches' Team. Kowalchick, a senior out of El Dorado Hills, was a key player for the Beach last season. She posted 52 goals, good for second on the team, and was named an ACWPC All-America Honorable Mention.
Elisa Portillo joins Kowalchick on the Preseason Coaches' Team after a strong freshman season. The sophomore out of Madrid, Spain led the team with 55 goals, while also recording 19 assists. Portillo was named a Third Team All-American by the ACWPC for the 2023 season.
No. 7 Long Beach State was one of a trio of preseason favorites sharing first-place votes. Defending champions UC Irvine were picked to repeat, with Hawai'i just in front of Long Beach State who received a pair of first-place votes, second-most behind the Anteaters.
The Beach will officially start the 2024 season on Saturday, Jan. 20 with the Beach Invite at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center. The Beach will take on Biola at 9:15 a.m.
