FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Long Beach State climbed three places with a fantastic final round on Tuesday at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, finishing in third place overall after scoring a 7-under 281 as a team on the final day.
Long Beach State's 54-hole final score of 854 tied the school record for the lowest team tournament, matching an eight-year old record set at the Las Vegas Showdown in 2015. A regular part of the Long Beach State women's golf schedule, the third-place finish at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic was also the highest finish of the 19 times the Beach has participated in the annual tournament.
Sophomore Janae Leovao earned a Top 10 finish with another fantastic round, carding a 5-under par 67 to place 7th overall, 8-under for the 54-hole tournament. Fellow sophomore Madison Le also had a tremendous round, four-under par at 68 to finish the tournament in a tie for 18th overall.
Freshman Andee Avery joined Leovao under par of the tournament, shooting an even par 72 on Tuesday to close out the tournament at 1-under, 17th overall as the Beach had three placed in the Top 20 of the 61-golfer field.
Jasmine Leovao finished the tournament with a 74 to place 29th overall, while senior Angelina Kim was the team's drop score with a 78 in the third and final round at the Ptarmigan Country Club.
Long Beach State entered Tuesday in a tight team battle with Fresno State and two Big West rivals in Cal Poly and Cal State Fullerton and passed all three in the final round, ultimately taking third place by three strokes in front of the Mustangs and trailing just Colorado and hosts Colorado State, the team champions.
The Beach will have a relatively quick turnaround before their third tournament of the fall, participating in the Aggie Invitational hosted by New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M. beginning on October 9.
