Janae Leovao and freshman Andee Avery both closed the first day in the Top 20 in Fort Collins.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Janae Leovao shot under par in both rounds Monday, and was the low finisher for Long Beach State after the first day at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic.

Held at the Ptarmigan Country Club, Leovao birdied two of her final four holes in the opening round to shoot a 71, and then was one better in the afternoon carding a 70 with another strong finish. The sophomore is tied for 12th at 3-under par with one round to play.

Freshman Andee Avery sits just two strokes behind Leovao after the first two rounds. After being Long Beach State's drop score in the first round despite a respectable 74, Avery closed the day on fire, birdieing four of her final seven holes without a bogey to close the day with a 69, the lowest score on the day from the Beach contingent.

Jasmine Leovao's second hole eagle helped the sophomore also finish under par in the first round with a 71. Her second round 75 saw her at 2-over par for the day in a tie for 26th overall. One stoke back in a tie for 29th was senior Angelina Kim. Kim had six birdies offset by a pair of double-bogeys on the way to a 73 in the first round, and Long Beach State's second eagle on the day, a two on the par-four 18th helped Kim finish with a 74 in the second round.

Madison Le had a strong start to the day with a two-under par 70 helped by six birdies, the low score for the Beach in the morning round before slipping to a tie for 34th overall with the second round drop score of 78.

A great battle among the Big West teams is shaping up for Tuesday as Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly and the Beach are all within one stroke of each other and all within three strokes of third place overall in the 11-team field. The hosts, Colorado State, lead the way while Colorado is in second place after two rounds.

The final round will tee off with a shotgun start, set to begin at 9 a.m. MT/8 a.m. PT. Follow the action live through the day at https://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=28281.
