Dirtbags Fall to Loyola Marymount on Monday Night

Long Beach State suffered their third straight loss.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State wrapped up a stretch of nine games in 11 days on Monday night suffering a 9-3 loss to Loyola Marymount. The Dirtbags move to 26-20 on the year with three weekends left to play.
The Lions controlled the game from the first pitch of the evening plating two runs in the top of the first for the early lead. They tacked on one more in the second and another in the fourth. In the sixth, they rallied for four runs to jump out to an 8-0 lead before the Dirtbags answered.
Connor Burns had the big swing for Long Beach State with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. It is his tenth of the season as he continues to have a career year.
Both teams would exchange runs in the eighth to setup a 9-2 game heading into the final frame. The 'Bags put together a small rally to plate their third run of the night, but came out on the wrong end of a 9-3 score.
Kyle Ashworth and Jack Hammond each recorded two-hit nights. Ashworth (2-for-4) added a run scored and an RBI while Hammond (2-for-4) scored a run.
Long Beach State continues their homestand this weekend hosting pre-season Big West favorites, UC Santa Barbara for a three-game set. Friday will be at 6 p.m., Saturday will be at 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU, and Sunday's finale will be at 1 p.m.
