Zeglin Tosses Complete Game Shutout in Series Opener Against UCSB

Long Beach State took the opener with the Gauchos, 1-0.
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Friday night saw a pitcher's dual at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field as Nico Zeglin dominated the UC Santa Barbara offense on his way to a 1-0 complete game shutout victory. The game lasted just two hours and two minutes.
Zeglin needed just 99 pitches to shutout the Gauchos for his first career complete game. The right-hander surrendered just three hits, all coming in the first two innings, retiring the final 20 hitters of the night following a one-out walk in the third inning.
Offensively, the Dirtbags plated just one run against Santa Barbara ace Matt Ager, who surrendered four hits in 7.1 innings of work. The only run came across came in the bottom of the fourth as Connor Burns smacked a double on a 1-2 count down the left field line following a Rocco Peppi single.
Jack Hammond and Ty Borgogno also recorded knocks in the victory with Hammond's extending his reached base streak to 11 straight games.
Long Beach State looks to carry their momentum into game two of the series tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. with the game nationally televised on ESPNU.
