Long Beach State allowed six runs in the fifth.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State suffered a 6-3 loss in Sunday's series finale with CSU Bakersfield resulting in a series loss. All six of the CSUB runs came in the fifth inning.

The Dirtbags jumped out to an early lead on a Rocco Peppi homer in the bottom of the first. A solo shot, it is the fifth home run of the season for the redshirt sophomore, matching his career high from last season.

Jashia Morrissey-Jakel led the second inning off with a double down the right field line. A flyout would move him to third and a sacrifice fly for Kyle Ashworth brought him home for the second run of the game. Ty Borgogno stepped in the box next and launched the first home run of his young career to cap off a two-run second inning.

Working with a three-run lead, Dalton Ponce dominated the first four innings allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out a career-high seven. Unfortunately, his command slipped away in the fifth leading to five runs (four earned) and the end of his day.

CSU Bakersfield would tack on another before the frame came as they scored all six of their runs in the fifth.

After scoring all three of their runs in the first two innings, the Dirtbags' offense would manage just three hits the rest of the way falling to the Roadrunners, 6-3.

Peppi was the standout on offense, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with the home run and two singles.

Long Beach State will have a quick turnaround as they host Loyola Marymount tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
